There is no evidence that time exists as some kind of force or thing, as demonstrated by FQXi holding the first essay contest on the nature of time in 2008.
If time does not exist, why is it not obvious? The Earth`s rotational motion is the fundamental physical mechanism responsible for our confusion about the nature of time. Our conscious experience of the continuous effects of the rotational motion is seamlessly matched to our time keeping systems, which are measurement base-lined from the rotational motion`s period of rotation.
The ongoing effects of our planet`s rotational motion affect everything and all, all the time. At the Equator, the speed of the rotational motion is about 1,600 kilometers per hour. If the rotational motion was stopped in an instant, the planet`s surface would be stripped down to bedrock.
Our particular reality on Earth, is that time seems to exist, because Earth is a swiftly rotating planet.
If the Earth rotated once per year, instead of once per day, the sun would cease to move through the sky. If you lived at high noon on the planet, it would always seem like high noon. You would have to travel to different time zones, such as Sun-rise or Sunset. You might travel to somewhere on the permanently dark side of the planet to see stars. Under these conditions, it might seem obvious, that time does not exist as some kind of force or thing.
